白杨把英语特色班的一周五课时划分成三部分内容,正像大学英语教程一样,有精读、泛读、语法及听说。当然,它们在不同阶段有不同的侧重,比如,第一学年前半年,他侧重语法及听说。这一阶段他以他的人体之形《英语入门捷径》为主要导向,在学生把握语言特征和理解课程内容的基础上,他以听说为主读写为辅,演绎和消化其相关的主要语言材料。这些英语素材均来自于学校教材《高中英语代用课本》和《北京市业余广播讲座》。
由于方法技巧的得力,课堂上学生情绪激昂,学习热情极为高涨,争先恐后,踊跃参与对话、问答、朗诵及竞赛等活动。很快班上涌现出一大批像袁芬,曹宾,郑民,李霞等这样的优秀学生。他们英语水平提高的速度到了一发不可收的地步。
寒冬腊月初的一个星期三的第一节课铃声一响,白杨身上穿着一身徐霞给他买的浅蓝色中山装,脚上穿着姐姐新从内蒙古寄来的一双黑色皮靴,手持教案和教具,昂首挺胸,步入教室。出其意料的是,细心的丁副主任早已坐在教室后面墙壁旁边他自己带来的办公椅上。
随着学生们的起立,向白杨回答“Good morning,Mr·Bai!”,丁主任也站了起来。他微笑地向白杨表示“我来听听,请继续。”
然而,令丁主任吃惊的是,主讲不是白杨,而是轮番上阵的学生。白杨只是把随身带着的世界地图展开,张贴在黑白右半边,把人头图张贴在左侧,然后边说了几句英语,边走下讲台站靠在前门右手边的墙壁旁。
“Now,everybdy,it's your turn to talk about the map of tne world with the main points we studied in last class.You can be free to group and have a conversation.”
先是学习委员兼英语课代表袁芬,走上讲台。
“I can do it first, Mr·Yang. Hi, Caobin,can you help me to finish the task?”她说道。
“No problem,I'd like to do it.”
曹宾答道,然后,从后排座位站了起来,走到前排处。
“Ok,thanks.Ready?”
“Yes,ready!”
"Now,look at the map.and talk about the country and its people with 'come from', ok?"
"Ok,please."
"Ok.begin from here, please!"袁芬用手指着地图上的北美国家说道。
"The Canadians come from Canada.
The Americans come from America.
The Brazilians come from Brazil.
The Australians come from Australia.
The Indians come from India.
The Chinese come from China.
The Japanese come from Japan.
The Koreans come from Korea.
The Russians come from Russia.
The Germans come from Germany.
